United States defender/midfielder Fabian Johnson is in doubt for next week’s World Cup qualifiers with a right adductor strain.
Johnson was injured Saturday playing with his German club, Borussia Möenchengladbach, and the club declared him “out until further notice.” The United States team convenes for training camp beginning Sunday in Miami.
The U.S. takes on Guatemala in qualifying matches March 25 and March 29. The loss of Johnson, who made 24 total appearances as a regular with the senior team in 2014 and 2015 would force the United States to explore other options on the outside.

Entering next week’s matches, the U.S. leads its qualifying group with four points, ahead of Trinidad and Tobago on goal differential.
