Mexico beats Canada, clinches place in CONCACAF hexagonal

Mexico beat Canada for the second time in five days to advance in World Cup qualifying.

Mexico's final two World Cup qualifying matches of this round will be of little consequence to El Tri. 

Mexico clinched a berth in the final round of CONCACAF World Cup qualifying–the hexagonal–by virtue of a 2-0 win over Canada Tuesday night at Estadio Azteca. The win, its second in five days over the Canadians, gives Mexico 12 points from four matches. Canada and Honduras are next closest with four points apiece and two matches to play. 

Andres Guardado's 18th-minute penalty and Jesus "Tecatito" Corona's brilliant individual 45th-minute effort were all El Tri needed to put away the Canadians on Tuesday.

On Friday, Chicharito, Hirving Lozano and Corona scored, as Mexico won 3-0 at a raucous BC Place in Vancouver.

Mexico has matches against Honduras and El Salvador this round remaining in September, but El Tri will be able to either use the matches to play spoiler or work different combinations of players, with a place in the hex already secure.

Mexico has won its last six matches and is unbeaten in 17, with its last loss coming at Copa America to Ecuador on June 19, 2015. Under manager Juan Carlos Osorio, Mexico has won all five of its games, outscoring opponents 12-0.
