Everton fans pay tribute to Hillsborough victims

Following this week’s ruling that 96 Liverpool fans were “unlawfully killed” during the 1989 FA Cup semifinal Hillsborough tragedy, fans of rival Everton showed their solidarity prior to their match Saturday.

Following this week’s ruling that 96 Liverpool fans were “unlawfully killed” due to police errors during the 1989 FA Cup semifinal Hillsborough tragedy, fans of rival Everton showed their solidarity prior to their match Saturday.

Everton and opponent Bournemouth both warmed up in “96” T-shirts before the game, honoring the victims, whose families were brought onto the field before the game. The match program also referenced the issue. There was a full minute of applause prior to the game, fans delivering an ovation and recognizing the significance of the ruling.

Families of the victims, according to reports, will sue police for £19.3M.
