The U.S. player pool has been trimmed to 40 players who will be in contention to play in Copa America Centenario this summer.

A little more than a month out from the USA's tournament-opening match against Colombia on June 3, Jurgen Klinsmann has revealed his preliminary squad, from which the final 23-man team will be chosen.

The preliminary roster was due to tournament organizers this past Friday and will be trimmed down to 23 by May 20.

Among those included are 17-year-old Borussia Dortmund rising talent Christian Pulisic, 20-year-old Chelsea center back Matt Miazga, Seattle Sounders rookie forward Jordan Morris and a series of stalwarts including Michael Bradley, Clint Dempsey, Jozy Altidore, Fabian Johnson, Jermaine Jones and Tim Howard. Pulisic, who has scored two goals for Borussia Dortmund in recent weeks, is a candidate to not just make the final cut, but also start in the competition, according to SI's Grant Wahl.

Nottingham Forest fullback Eric Lichaj's name being in the fold is a relative surprise given his absence from the national team since Klinsmann has been U.S. manager. Among those on the outside looking in are Orlando City winger/fullback Brek Shea and Leon goalkeeper William Yarbrough.

Ahead of pre-Copa friendlies against Puerto Rico, Ecuador and Bolivia, Klinsmann will hold a camp in Miami that commences on May 16 for players based in Europe and Mexico, and MLS players will get integrated as their schedules permit. The USA will play Colombia, Costa Rica and Paraguay in group play.
