Watch: USWNT's Carli Lloyd on her injury, Olympics, equal pay
U.S. women's national team co-captain and reigning FIFA Women's World Player of the Year Carli Lloyd joined SI's Grant Wahl for a Facebook Live interview on Tuesday, talking her injury, equal pay and the Olympics while also taking questions from fans ("Like" our new Facebook page here!).
Lloyd's injury, she says, is not as bad as some may have feared, and she is determined to get back on the field. The 33-year-old Lloyd addresses how long she wants to play (expect her on the field at the 2019 Women's World Cup in France), the complexity of the U.S. women's team's equal pay fight (and why it's not against the U.S. men) and picks her top challenges for the U.S. this summer in Rio, where she will try to lead the Americans to a fifth gold medal (and fourth in a row).
Watch her interview below:
With Lloyd on the mend, the U.S. women will return to action June 2 against Japan in one of two friendlies between the two sides in a four-day span.
