Just like 2014, the UEFA Champions League final ended with Real Madrid glory, Atletico Madrid heartbreak and Cristiano Ronaldo shirtless.

After the game went to penalties, Ronaldo buried the winning penalty to seal Real Madrid’s second Champions League title of the last three years.

Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid entered extra time level at one goal apiece, and neither team could find the back of the net in the extra 30 minutes.

Atletico substitute Yannick Carrasco scored a 79th minute equalizer to put Diego Simeone’s side level with Real Madrid in Milan. Carrasco’s goal followed Sergio Ramos’s first–half goal for Real Madrid.

The goal was Ramos’s first in the Champions League since the 2014 final, when he scored a late equalizer to send the game to extra time.

The title is Real Madrid’s 11th in the Champions League.

Highlights

Real Madrid took the lead courtesy of Sergio Ramos. The goal came off a Toni Kroos free kick, which found Gareth Bale’s head. Bale flicked it on to Ramos, who barely got a touch to put the ball past Atletico goalkeeper Jan Oblak.

Ramos appeared to be offside when Bale headed the ball.

With the goal, Ramos became just the fifth player ever to score in two Champions League finals, joining Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Samuel Eto'o and Raúl.

The goal, which stood as the lone score at halftime, sent Real Madrid fans watching at the Bernabeu in Madrid into a frenzy.

But in the 79th minute of the game, substitute Yannick Carrasco scored for Atletico off a low cross from Juanfran.

After a scoreless extra time, the game went to penalties. After Juanfran hit the post on Atletico’s fourth attempt—both teams had made all of their previous kicks—Cristiano Ronaldo stepped up to the spot with a chance to seal the title.

Off came the shirt.

Both teams had a number of chances to score a second goal.

Early in the second half, Antoine Griezmann’s penalty attempt smashed off the crossbar. Atletico was awarded the penalty after Fernando Torres was fouled by Pepe in the box.

Later in the second half, Jan Oblak denied Real Madrid forward Karim Benzema on a break to keep Atletico within one goal.

In the first half, Real Madrid nearly scored in the sixth minute off a Gareth Bale free kick into the box. The kick found its way to the foot of Casemiro, but  Oblak came up with a fantastic save.

Casemiro has not scored in the Champions League this season.
