Costa Rica, Paraguay draw 0-0 in Copa America; Waston sent off
Costa Rica and Paraguay played to a 0-0 draw in their opening match of Copa America Centenario in front of 14,334 at Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Florida.
The heated, chippy match reached its boiling point in stoppage time of the second half, when Costa Rica central defender Kendall Waston was sent off with a straight red card. As a result, he'll miss Costa Rica's match against the United States on Tuesday in Chicago.
Neither team threatened to seriously score, with the best chance coming late in the final minutes as Christian Bolaños laced a low, bounding, blast from long range. Paraguay goalkeeper Justo Villa got enough on it to parry it to safety, though, and the teams split the points.
They each sit behind first-place Colombia after one match of Group A play, while the USA is in last place after Friday's 2-0 loss to Los Cafeteros.
