USMNT to play friendly vs. Cuba in Havana in October
The U.S. men's national team will play Cuba in Havana on October 7 in the first friendly between the two nations since 1947, U.S. Soccer announced on Thursday.
The last meeting between the two was during qualifying for the 2010 World Cup, when the USA won 6-1 at RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C., on Sept. 6, 2008. The historic meeting will come after the conclusion of the semifinal round of 2018 World Cup qualifying. The USA plays St. Vincent and The Grenadines and Trinidad & Tobago to wrap up the round, with the Americans closing in on a place in the CONCACAF hexagonal.
The U.S. is coming off a fourth-place finish at Copa America Centenario.
"We are happy to have the chance to bring our team to Cuba," U.S. manager Jurgen Klinsmann said in a statement. "In addition to good competition, we are always looking for our group to have different experiences, and this is a unique opportunity."
