Gyasi Zardes out for rest of MLS's regular season with broken foot

LA Galaxy and U.S. men's national team forward Gyasi Zardes will miss the rest of the MLS regular season after breaking his foot, the Galaxy announced on Tuesday.
Zardes suffered the injury on a tackle by the Vancouver Whitecaps' Kendall Waston over the weekend, and it keeps him out of the USA's two World Cup qualifiers in early September. Given the vague timetable set by the Galaxy, the broken fifth metatarsal will at the very least rule him out of the USA's October friendlies against Cuba and New Zealand, and it could prevent him from playing in the start of the CONCACAF World Cup qualifying hexagonal in November, provided the USA punches its ticket to the final round.

Zardes had six goals and five assists this season for the Galaxy, which will also be without starting center back Jelle Van Damme for the next 2-3 weeks with an MCL sprain. Based on the Galaxy's statement, it's possible Zardes could return in time for the playoffs, which begin in November.
The Galaxy (9-4-13) currently sit in fourth place in MLS's Western Conference, tied with the Colorado Rapids for a league low in losses and tied with Orlando City SC for a league high in draws. LA is three points behind both Colorado and Real Salt Lake for second place, which comes with a first-round bye in the playoffs.
