England was in line for a momentum-carrying friendly win over Spain, but late goals by Iago Aspas and Isco forced a 2-2 draw at Wembley Stadium on Tuesday.

England led through a penalty from Adam Lallana and a diving header by Jamie Vardy and appeared headed for the victory, but Iago Aspas pulled one back in the 89th minute with a tremendous individual effort.

Isco then capitalized on poor defending at the death, with the Real Madrid midfielder netting the equalizer to stun what was once a celebratory home crowd.

On England's first goal, Lallana curled a ball forward for Vardy, and while the Leicester forward's touch wasn't perfect, he coaxed Spain goalkeeper Pepe Reina into committing the foul that gifted the Three Lions the penalty. Lallana stepped up and converted for the ninth-minute goal. The goal was Lallana's third in as many games for England.

Lallana's good night ended soon after, though, as he exited with an injury and was replaced by Theo Walcott.

Vardy doubled the lead for England a few minutes into the second half with a perfect diving header, and he promptly celebrated with a mannequin challenge pose.

Spain commenced its comeback quite late. Iago Aspas froze backup goalkeeper Tom Heaton with a beautiful left-footed effort toward the far post, before Isco took a pass down off his chest and beat Heaton with a low chance from close range.

The game closes the November international break for both sides, who sit atop their respective World Cup qualifying groups. England and Spain are both 3-0-1 through four matches on the road to Russia 2018. In their most recent games, Spain routed Macedonia 4-0, while England handled Scotland 3-0.
