Lionel Messi impossibly evades six defenders, sets up Luis Suarez for goal
Barcelona star Lionel Messi pulled out yet another magic trick on Sunday, fooling six Espanyol defenders and leading Luis Suarez to the club’s second goal of the game in the process.
In the 67th minute, Messi got the ball from Andres Iniesta–who pulled off a magical move of his own–and deked out four defenders, weaving and nutmegging his way into more space. Messi then got off a shot between two converging opponents, which was saved by keeper Roberto Gago. Suarez secured the rebound, though, and put it home to give Barcelona a 2–0 lead.
The goal was the second of the game for Suarez. Jordi Alba added a third a minute later to make the score 3–1.
Messi got one of his own late on, scoring just before the final whistle to add to Barcelona’s final 4-1 margin.
Barcelona pulled within three points of first-place Real Madrid in La Liga with the victory, though Real has a game in hand. It had the weekend in league play off, as it was competing in–and winning–the FIFA Club World Cup.
