MONCHENGLADBACH, Germany (AP) – U.S. international Fabian Johnson has extended his contract with Borussia Monchengladbach by two years to 2020.

The 29-year-old Johnson says, ''It's wonderful to be able to carry on playing for this great club.''

Johnson, who can play at full back or as winger, has 10 goals and set up 12 more in 69 Bundesliga games for `Gladbach since joining from league rival Hoffenheim in 2014. He previously played for Wolfsburg and second-division side 1860 Munich.

Sporting director Max Eberl says, ''With his versatility on the pitch and his calm, reliable character in the dressing room, Fabian has developed into a leading player within the team.''

Johnson has made 54 appearances for the U.S.
