Italy World Cup Humiliation Continues as Denmark Prepare to Take Over Russia Hotel Booking
As if failure to qualify for the World Cup wasn't embarrassing enough, Italy are facing further humiliation as it's been revealed they had already pre-booked their accommodation for the World Cup in Russia next year.
As reported in The Sun, Danish media outlet Sport understand that Denmark could take over the Azzurri's booking after Sweden beat Italy 1-0 on aggregate in the playoffs.
It is understood that although the Danish FA had scouted potential locations of where to stay should they qualify, no concrete plans yet had been put in place.
When questioned about whether they would step into the void, Claus Bretton-Meyer, CEO of the Danish FA said: "The big countries have settled in the bigger venues, and so we will need to see what we can get.
"Now there is a big difference between the preferences of the Danes and Italians, but it is clear that we can end up in a situation where we must get what we can get."
Denmark sealed their place in Russia next year with a thumping 5-1 victory at the Republic of Ireland in midweek.
Spurs midfielder Christian Eriksen was the hero of the night, scoring a breathtaking hat-trick, whilst cult hero Nicklas Bendtner rounded off the scoring with a late penalty.
The Italians meanwhile are coming to terms with not only losing their hotel reservations, but also failing to qualify for a World Cup finals for the first time in 60 years.
