PSG summer signing Kylian Mbappe missed a whole bag of chances against his former side AS Monaco on Sunday night, prompting some playful jokes thrown in his direction in the locker room.

But whilst Mbappe misfired, PSG recorded a vital win, racking up three crucial points in the process.

The lethal attacking force of ‘MCN’ managed to get two of their contingent on the scoresheet, with Edinson Cavani opening the scoring in the first half and Neymar doubling their advantage from the spot.

Mbappe managed to join them, however not as he would wish.

The French striker failed to finish many chances, but eventually provided a huge deflection off of a Monaco free-kick that nestled in the back of the PSG net.

Neymar, who was on fire against Monaco, threaded two beautiful balls to Mbappe, who failed to score either, denying the Brazilian two exquisite assists.

But PSG skipper Thiago Silva was quick to joke around with the misfiring teenager after the game.

"I told him in the locker room that he still thought he was playing for Monaco," the Brazilian said speaking to Goal.

"He even deflected the ball on their goal!"

But despite a poor outing on Sunday night, Mbappe has been doing well in justifying his £166m price tag, scoring seven goals already this season as part of a new look PSG attack that could dominate Europe over the next, thoughts echoed by Silva.

"But Kylian has a very good start to the season, like Cavani and Neymar.”

Speaking after the game, Silva also weighed in on the penalty drama between Neymar and Cavani.

"What we saw today, Neymar shooting a penalty... perhaps in a next match, Neymar can leave it to Cavani because this kid has a great heart, you don't even imagine it.

"Perhaps, if he had already scored today, he could have let the penalty to Cavani because the most important thing is that PSG can win, and Neymar makes this kind of thing.

“Maybe for the next penalty, he can pass it even to Kylian because today he had some difficulty in scoring, but we are happy with him," Silva added.
