Premier League Fantasy Football: Who's Hot and Who's Not in Gameweek 14
With the festive period very much on the horizon, it's almost time to celebrate, rejoice and enjoy time at home with some much needed relaxation - unless you're an avid fantasy football player of course.
We're very much at the business end of fantasy proceedings, and another huge weekend of action lies ahead - headlined on Sunday by the Merseyside derby between Liverpool and Everton, and the north London derby between Arsenal and Tottenham.
With some players very much in-form, and some losing their way somewhat, it's imperative to get your fantasy teams in shape before the fixtures really begin to pile up. Here's your latest guide to who you should be drafting in, and who you should consider dropping from your side.
Goalkeepers
Who's Hot
Hugo Lloris: Although a north London derby against Arsenal awaits Lloris this weekend, it may not be such a daft idea to transfer the Spurs captain into your fantasy side now. The Frenchman has four clean sheets to his name this season and, after this weekend, faces a tasty looking stretch of seven games without facing any of the other 'big six'. A penny for your thoughts.
Jordan Pickford: Everton's season continues to grow from strength to strength and one factor for that success has been the rock solid performances of England's number one goalkeeper. Pickford still only costs £4.9m, and has attracted the interest of over 13,000 new managers this week alone - a Merseyside derby is on the agenda this weekend, but who's to say that Pickford can't be the man to blunt Liverpool's famed front three?
Who's Not
Mat Ryan: Things were looking rosey a few weeks ago for Ryan, with the Australian having kept three successive clean sheets for Brighton. Fast forward three games, and the Seagulls have only picked up one point out of a possible nine. Huddersfield are this weekend's opponents, but with David Wagner's side steadily improving, Ryan may not be the man to have between the sticks, given recent form.
Defenders
Who's Hot
Trent Alexander-Arnold: After last weekend's free-kick against Watford, Alexander-Arnold is very much the talk of the town. Versatile, solid in defence and exceptionally talented going forward, the 20-year-old star is seemingly honing and perfecting his craft week after week. If you needed any more convincing about whether to sign the England defender, take note of this - over 150,000 players have brought him in after last week's exploits and he's still only worth £5.2m. Get in quick and snap him up.
Antonio Rudiger: Chelsea took a bit of a pasting against Tottenham last weekend, but I think you can put that down as very much a one-off. Maurizio Sarri was scathing in his criticism of his players after the game, and they will look to bounce back this weekend against local rivals Fulham at Stamford Bridge. With six clean sheets already to his name this season, Rudiger will be confident of adding a seventh against a team low on confidence, despite last weekend's narrow win over Southampton.
Who's Not
Joe Gomez - Whilst Trent Alexander-Arnold continues to pick up momentum, the same (at least in fantasy land) can't be said for his young Liverpool teammate. Ousted from the side by Dejan Lovren last weekend, Gomez may find it tricky to reclaim his place in the Reds starting line-up - given the impressive nature of their win over Watford. Over 20,000 players have cut their losses already this week, and it may be wise to eye up his teammate for a place in your squad instead.
Midfielders
Who's Hot
Raheem Sterling: The continued improvement of Sterling should perhaps come as no surprise - he is playing under potentially the best manager in the world after all in Pep Guardiola. His fantasy statistics are superb, and although valued at £11.3m, he represents guaranteed points. Seven goals and seven assists have seen the Manchester City star earn 95 points already, and with close to 200,000 players transferring him in for this week, you'd be mad to miss out.
Aaron Mooy: At the other end of the Premier League table, things have been a struggle for Huddersfield Town. A change of fortunes recently though has seen the Terriers earn seven points from their last three outings, with Mooy helping himself to a brace last time out against Wolves. At just £5.1m, he's a viable, cheap option - and may free up some much needed funds to bring in the likes of Sterling.
Who's Not
Lucas Moura - After starting the season so well, things have tailed off recently for Spurs' Brazilian playmaker. The goals have dried up and with teammates Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen returning to fitness, coupled with improved form from both Son Heung-min and Erik Lamela, it seems likely that Lucas will lose his place in the side. Almost 50,000 players have dropped him this week alone, and that may be a wise move to follow with his value set to dip below its current £7.1m mark.
Forwards
Who's Hot
Sergio Aguero: Eight goals and six assists represents another healthy return for Manchester City's talismanic striker, and you feel the best is yet to come. The Argentine normally fires over the Christmas period, and with his favourite time of the year coming, it's time to get Aguero into your side, by hook or by crook. He costs a whopping £11.5m, but every team has it's star man - and there's no doubting he'd be yours if selected.
Aleksandar Mitrovic: Although it's been a disappointing first season back in the big time so far for Fulham, there has been no questioning the goalscoring quality of Mitrovic up front. The Serb has seven top flight goals to his name, and his brace last weekend against Southampton led Claudio Ranieri to victory in his first match in charge. The result, and Mitrovic's performance, has encouraged over 65,000 players to snap him up ahead of this weekend - at £6.6m, it's not hard to see why many see him as value for money.
Who's Not
Marko Arnautovic: West Ham's charismatic frontman has been in superb individual form again this season, netting five goals so far. But for all of Arnautovic's efforts, the Hammers struggles to string together a run of positive results have left them marooned in mid table, seemingly treading water. Costing just £7.1m, the Austrian represents good value - but with the Hammers notoriously poor over the Christmas period, it may be time to give him an extended break from your side.
