Christian Pulisic Scores Again for Chelsea as Blues Beat Watford
Christian Pulisic made it four goals in two Premier League matches, as the 21-year-old scored against Watford on Saturday, helping Chelsea win, 2-1. The goal aside, it was another strong performance from the young American, who continues to prove his worth to Frank Lampard after some recent time spent on the bench.
Chelsea dominated the majority of the game against bottom-of-the-table Watford, and the first goal was thanks to Tammy Abraham, who picked up a beautiful pass from Jorginho. Abraham took full advantage and made it 1-0 in the fifth minute.
Chelsea continued to push, and Pulisic nearly scored in the first half on a tremendous header, which required Ben Foster's acrobatics to deny the American.
But in the second half, the former Borussia Dortmund star would not be denied. Abraham turned from scorer to creator as his low cross found Pulisic inside the box. He peeled off his defender on a near-post run and tapped in from close range in the 55th minute.
After his man-of-the-match performance against Burnley last weekend in which he scored a perfect hat trick, the attacker continued to deliver for his team against the Hornets. Pulisic came off in the 83rd minute and was replaced by Callum Hudson-Odoi.Β
His goal wound up being the game-winner, after Gerard Deulofeu netted a late penalty for the home side. Chelsea is tied on points with Leicester City for third in the Premier League, after the Foxes won at Crystal Palace on Sunday. Both trail first-place Liverpool by eight points.
As for Pulisic, he'll look to continue his good run of form in the Champions League this week vs. Ajax, in the return matchup between the two sides. Pulisic's game-winning assist in their last meeting delivered Chelsea a 1-0 win in Amsterdam.
