Sports World Reacts to USMNT’s Win Over Iran at Qatar World Cup

Fans were on the edge of their seats during Tuesday’s game.

The United States men’s national team can breathe a sigh of relief after beating Iran 1–0 on Tuesday to advance to the knockout round in the 2022 men’s World Cup.

Christian Pulisic scored the USMNT’s only goal in the 38th minute. But in a game in which the U.S. needed a win to advance, fans were on the edge of their seats for the remainder of the game.

The nerves really set in during the final minutes as Iran came very close to scoring the equalizer multiple times. There were nine minutes of stoppage time added, too, meaning fans had to wait even longer to see if the USMNT would advance.

But, all the stress and worry worked out for the USMNT as the team held Iran from scoring a goal throughout the entire game.

When the referee finally blew the whistle for full time, Twitter erupted into major celebrations for the United States.

The USMNT will face the Netherlands on Saturday at 10 a.m. ET.
