2022 World Cup: Quarterfinal Matchups, Schedule and Remaining Bracket

The road to the Dec. 18 title match in Lusail is picking up steam. Here’s how the knockout stage is unfolding.

The World Cup’s opening stage featured four days of thrilling, group-ending simultaneous action (the kind of action that won’t be possible starting in 2026, if FIFA continues on its current plan regarding World Cup expansion). The round of 16 followed with four more, and now that the tournament has reached its first set of off days, eight teams remain.

Here’s a look at the updated World Cup bracket, in order as it will be situated. On each half, the winners of the top quarterfinals will meet in the semis, as will the winners of the bottom two. Those winners will then feed into the title match on Dec. 18 in Lusail.
