Christian Pulisic Was Asked About Status With Chelsea Amid Transfer Rumors

After his run at the World Cup, the American winger will return to a rather uncertain status with his Premier League club.

Christian Pulisic addressed his future at Chelsea publicly this week amid speculation that his time with the West London club may be coming to an end. 

Speaking on the Indirect podcast, hosted by Steve Schlanger and Pulisic’s United States men’s national teammate Tim Ream, Pulisic explained that his focus remains fully on finishing out the season with Chelsea, but that he knows “things change quickly” in the sport.

“Right now I’m absolutely back at Chelsea, focused and ready to finish the season. But you know how things work in football… things change quickly and anything can happen,” Pulisic said. “At the moment, I am just pushing myself in training and working at Chelsea, because that’s where I am right now.”

ESPN’s Mark Ogden reported last month that Manchester United is open to a loan move for Pulisic as a replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo, who had his contract canceled by the club before the start of the World Cup. Chelsea, who signed the American winger on a £58 million transfer from Borussia Dortmund four years ago, is reportedly expected to be open to moving Pulisic.

United, along with Newcastle and Arsenal, have been made aware of Pulisic’s possible availability when the January transfer window opens, according to ESPN. 

Pulisic, 24, is fresh off of a strong showing with the USMNT at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. He scored once and assisted twice in the U.S.’s four games, helping to lead the team out of the group stage and into the round of 16. 

Despite his success on the international level, Pulisic’s experience on the club side in recent years has been far different. He’s started just three games for Chelsea this season and has scored only once in 13 appearances.
