This summer will bring a collision of British soccer teams beloved in America past and present.

Manchester United will play Wrexham in an exhibition game on July 25 at Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego, according to a Monday afternoon announcement.

Wrexham, a Welsh team in England’s National League, is owned by American actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. The team's exploits have been chronicled in the docuseries Welcome to Wrexham on FX; now, Wrexham will play in the United States for the first time in its 159-year history.

"The match against Manchester United is sure to be a memorable occasion at Snapdragon Stadium, San Diego. The tour will be an excellent opportunity for us to prepare for the 2023–24 season, and the match against Manchester United will be a competitive fixture and a good test for us as we look ahead to the new campaign," Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson said in the club's statement.

Wrexham is currently 30-2-7, three points clear of second-place Notts County for first place in the National League. The team is seeking its first league title since winning the Third Division (today's League One) in 1978.

The friendly will mark the first matchup between Manchester United and Wrexham since a 1995 FA Cup tie, won 5–2 by the Red Devils.
