Carlo Ancelotti to Leave Real Madrid to Become Brazil Manager, per Report
Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti is reportedly set to leave the club and take over as Brazil’s national team coach after his current contract expires, according to Brazilian media outlet Globo.
Ancelotti is expected to take charge of the team in 2024. The Italian manager is currently in his second spell with Real Madrid, having returned to the club in June 2021 following a prior stint with the team from '13 to '15.
Ancelotti reportedly had two meetings in Spain with the president of the Brazilian Football Confederation, Ednaldo Rodrigues, during which the sides agreed on the 64-year-old’s managerial future.
The report comes amid rumors that Brazil was considering appointing Ancelotti’s son, Davide, as a coach for the national team.
Ancelotti is one of the world’s most decorated coaches, having served for some of the largest clubs on the planet including Juventus, AC Milan, Chelsea, PSG and Bayern Munich.
The Brazil squad includes a handful of current and former Real Madrid players, including Vinicius Jr., Rodrygo, Eder Militao and Casemiro. It will be his first time serving as a national team’s manager, and his first time operating in international soccer since he was an assistant for Italy’s national team back in the 1990s.
Ancelotti’s first major task as manager of Brazil will be the 2024 Copa America, which will take place in June and July.
