Transfer Roundup: USMNT Stars Pulisic, Musah and Dest Linked With Summer Moves
With the arrival of July comes an uptick in summer transfers, and the U.S. men’s national team is no exception.
While one U.S. star has already completed a high-profile move, several other USMNT players are said to be weighing up major transfers this summer. Meanwhile, the giants of the Premier League have kept plenty busy in the transfer market since the end of the season.

Transfer rumors and done deals
Christian Pulisic has reportedly shot down a move to Lyon after the French side made a €25 million ($27.2 million) bid for the U.S. men’s national team star. Last week, reports claimed that the 24-year-old had agreed to a move to AC Milan, although the Serie A side’s reported €14 million bid is below Chelsea’s asking price. (ESPN)
AC Milan is pushing for a move for midfielder Yunus Musah, but reportedly remains €5 million short of Valencia’s €25 million valuation for the USMNT phenom. The 20-year-old was a starter for the USMNT at the World Cup along with in the team’s recent Nations League triumph. Fulham and Inter Milan have also been linked to Musah. (Corriere dello Sport)
Manchester United has agreed to a £60 million move for Mason Mount. The Chelsea star is reportedly taking his medical today before the transfer is made official on a five-year deal. After entertaining interest from Premier League side Fulham, Brenden Aaronson looks set for a move to the Bundesliga. Union Berlin is reportedly finalizing talks over a loan move for the USMNT winger after Leeds was relegated. (The Athletic)
Barcelona president Joan Laporta confirmed that the club is working on offloading right back Sergiño Dest. The USMNT star spent last season on loan at AC Milan, where he made only eight Serie A appearances. (La Vanguardia)
Newcastle have secured a massive move for AC Milan midfielder Sandro Tonali. The £55 million transfer fee makes Tonali the most expensive Italian transfer of all time, bolstering the Magpies’ midfield ahead of a Champions League campaign. The 23-year-old heads to the Premier League on a five-year deal after helping AC Milan to the Serie A title in 2021-22 along with the Champions League semifinals last season.
Juventus officially announced a move for USMNT star Tim Weah. The 23-year-old joins from French side Lille in a deal worth $11.3 million, with another $2.3 million tied up in performance bonuses. The New York native has made 31 appearances for the USMNT and started all of the team’s games at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
After the signing of Alexis Mac Allister, Liverpool has made its second major splash of the summer transfer window with a move for RB Leipzig’s Dominik Szoboszlai. The Reds shelled out £60 million for the 22-year-old Hungarian, who recored six goals and eight assists in the Bundesliga last season.
Tottenham has won the race to sign James Maddison, beating out reported interest from Newcastle. Spurs is set to pay £40 million for the Leicester City star, who recorded 10 goals and nine assists during an injury-plagued season last year.
César Azpilicueta has reportedly agreed to join Atlético Madrid on a free transfer in a one-year deal. The 33-year-old made 32 appearances for Chelsea last season, his lowest tally since joining the club in 2012. The Spaniard won two Premier League titles an FA Cup and a Champions League trophy in 11 seasons in west London. (The Athletic)

Inter Milan has secured one of the biggest free transfers of the summer with a move for Marcus Thuram. The 25-year-old French forward scored a career-high 16 goals in all competitions for Borussia Mönchengladbach last season while helping France to the World Cup final.
Tottenham’s busy summer continues with a move for Shakhtar Donetsk winger Manor Solomon. The 23-year-old scored five goals while on loan at Fulham last season. The Israeli international will be Spurs’s fifth signing of the summer after he completes a medical this week. (BBC)
Wolves has turned down a surprising offer from Napoli for defender Max Kilman. The Serie A champions offered €35 million for the 26-year-old amid rumors that Kim Min-jae is expected to leave Napoli this summer. Wolves is reportedly holding out for at least €40 million. (The Athletic)
Former Arsenal and Barcelona star Cesc Fabregas announced his retirement over the weekend. The 36-year-old midfielder won two Euros and a World Cup with Spain, a La Liga title with Barcelona and two Premier League titles with Chelsea. He will continue on with Como in Serie B as a youth coach.
