Mia Hamm Explains What USWNT Must Do to Climb Back Atop Soccer World
Former USWNT superstar Mia Hamm explained what steps she thinks the current national team needs to take in order to return to the top of the sport.
Speaking with Sports Illustrated’s Robin Lundberg about her status as an Icon in EA SPORTS FC 24, which will be released on Sept. 29, Hamm offered her wisdom on what the team’s biggest needs currently are.
“They have the talent. I think just making sure that the next coach takes advantage of the personnel and organizes them in a way that they’ll be the best version of themselves out on the field,” said Hamm, who represented the United States internationally from 1987 to 2004.
The USWNT parted ways with its coach, Vlatko Andonovski, following the team’s disappointing exit in the round of 16 at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup. In his stead, Twila Kilgore has been named the interim coach.
With plans to find a permanent replacement for Andonovski, Hamm indicated that the team’s next appointment will be critical in order to get the most out of the ultra-talented American roster.
