Manchester City’s Erling Haaland Breaks EPL Record for Fastest to 50 Career Goals
Manchester City forward Erling Haaland made history on Saturday, becoming the fastest player to score 50 goals in his Premier League career with a goal against Liverpool. Haaland set the record in 48 games, smashing the previous mark of 65 games set by Andrew Cole in the 1990s with Newcastle.
Haaland is only in his second EPL season, having made the move following five seasons in the Bundesliga last year. The 23-year-old striker scored 36 goals in 35 games for Manchester City in his first season with the team and has picked up where he left off with 14 goals in 13 games this season.
Haaland’s 36 goals last season also is an EPL record. He will next look to become the fastest to reach 100 goals, a mark currently held by Alan Shearer at 124 games. Haaland’s 14 goals this year currently lead the league, as he is four goals ahead of Liverpool’s Mo Saleh.
Saturday’s record-breaking goal gave Manchester City a 1-0 lead in a crucial matchup against Liverpool, but Liverpool came back to tie the game and force a 1-1 draw.
