Jurgen Klopp to Step Down as Liverpool Manager
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp will step down at the end of the season, the club announced Friday.
“I will leave the club at the end of the season,” Klopp said in a video posted on X, formerly Twitter. “… I love absolutely everything about this club. I love everything about this city. I love everything about our supporters. I love the team. I love the staff. I love everything. But that I still take this decision shows you I am convinced it is the one I have to take. It is that I am, how can I say it, running out of energy.”
The 56-year-old Klopp has Liverpool at the top of the Premier League table, as the club holds a five-point lead over Manchester City through 21 matches. Liverpool remains in the mix in four different competitions, including the FA Cup, Carabao Cup, Europa League and of course, the Premier League.
Klopp guided Liverpool to the 2019 Champions League title and captured the Premier League title in 2020.
Although it is unclear what’s next for Klopp, he made it clear he intends to take at least a year off from coaching in any capacity.
“I will find something else to do. But I will not manage a club or country for at least a year,” Klopp said.
