Liverpool Hiring Feyenoord's Arne Slot to Replace Jurgen Klopp
Liverpool has found its replacement for Jurgen Klopp. The Premier League giant has reached a deal to bring Feyenoord's Arne Slot to Anfield as the club's new manager.
Slot confirmed on Thursday that he wanted to take the job and was "confident" an agreement would be reached. The 45-year-old has been the head man at Feyenoord since July 2021 and has posted a record of 95 wins, 29 draws and 23 losses in that time. The club won the Eredivisie in 2023 and is currently second this season. Feyenoord added the 2024 KNVB Cup to its trophy case over the weekend.
Slot was still under contract, so Liverpool had to come up with a compensation package for Feyenoord to allow him to leave. Terms have been agreed to though they have yet to be disclosed. The Athletic reported an opening offer of $9.6 million was rejected.
Feyenoord assistant coach Sipke Hulshoff and head of performance Ruben Peeters will also be joining Liverpool.
Liverpool's current manager endorsed Slot as his successor on Friday.
"What I like a lot about it is if he is the one then he wants to take the job—he's desperate, excited, let's go for it," Klopp, who is stepping down after nine seasons in charge, said. "I like the way his team play football and all the things I hear about him as a guy."
Life without Klopp is beginning for Liverpool. Now we know who will be steering the ship.
