VIDEO: Leaders Leicester take down the Lads
Instead of giving into the pressure, Mowbray went on the attack with a very high and aggressive press trying to deny the League Leaders time on the ball to dominate proceedings.
And largely this worked quite well. Leicester had to battle for everything in a way they do not in any other game so far this season. Sunderland matched them for pass accuracy, possession, shots on goal and largely they looked capable of coming away with something.
Leicester scored early from a set-piece; seemingly still Sunderland’s Achilles Heel and ultimately Leicester proved lethal on the break. It took an outstanding performance from Anthony Patterson to keep Sunderland in the game.
Sunderland however, were not without their own threat. Constantly pressing the ball high up the pitch, they had numerous chances but failed to convert. They were not helped by the officials denying a clear penalty claim.
As the second half opened the match swung too and fro with and Tony Mowbray threw on fresh legs just after the hour to try and get something. Cirkin and Ba both went close in the final stages, but Sunderland could not puncture the Foxes defence and the striker problem continues for Sunderland.
Take a look at the video below to see the breakdown of just how it all happened and what Sunderland need to do at corners to fix their defence.
