Sunderland show their quality to sting the Hornets
After breezing past Sheffield Wednesday, Sunderland entertained Watford on Wednesday night. Fresh off the back of a contract extension Valerian Ismael brought an experienced team to the Stadium of Light looking to turn around their fortunes.
Watford sat in 20th place on only 9 points, but all the stats pointed to a more impressive team than their League placing showed.
An injury to the impressive Alex Pritchard forced Mowbray into a change, but such is the squad these days that he has plenty of talent in reserve. So it was that Abdoullah Ba stepped back into the Right Wing role and Patrick Roberts moved inside to float as the number 10, or wherever he damn well pleased
Despite the advert of the opening moments the game simmered with caution. Both sides trying to find numbers in a packed midfield largely resulted in the two sides cancelling each other out.
It was Sunderland who were the most pro-active in the face of this stalemate, switching to the flanks and pushing up the defenders and it soon paid dividends when Niall Huggins burst through on goal to launch the Spear of Leonidas at Watford’s goal.
With the deadlock broken there only looked to be one side that would take all three points and that was confirmed mid-way through the second half when resident Salmon Abdoullah Ba leapt to make it two.
It was a creative display of quality from a Sunderland team who never really looked troubled by Watford this evening. So click on the video link below and have a look at just how ‘The Black Cats stung the Hornets’.
