Sunderland 1-1 Huddersfield: Player ratings as Black Cats held at home
Sunderland's already relatively faint play-offs hope were dented as they were held 1-1 by a stubborn Huddersfield Town at the Stadium of light.
Joe Gelhardt got the Sunderland goal, and a fine one it was too, although they were not able to add a second before getting pegged back in the second half.
The game appeared to fizzle out after that as the injury-ravaged Sunderland squad was exposed, but it wasn't a bad performance by any means.
Here is how the players rated.
Sunderland player ratings vs Huddersfield
Anthony Patterson - Claimed a lot of high balls and couldn't do anything about Kasumu's equaliser. Looked cool and assertive. 7
Trai Hume - Found himself in extremely advanced, central areas, much like Alexander Arnold has done for Liverpool. He's good with the ball at his feet, but not as slick as the attacking players he's combining with, and that showed on occasion. 6
Danny Batth - As usual dealt with a lot of balls into the area, but has looked a little more shaky in the last couple of games than the rest of the season. 6
Luke O'Nien - Looked a bit frantic at times. We can assume that he maybe hasn't slept that much in the last couple of weeks, so we'll let him off. 6
Lynden Gooch - Doing solidly as a utility man, without adding any real attacking quality. 6
Dan Neil - Not having as many eye-catching moments at the moment, but still getting through a lot of running and doing the simple things well. 7
Alex Pritchard - Had some tidy moments in the first half, but doesn't have the physicality to play in a midfield two. For all his quality he lacks killer instinct in front of goal. 6
Jack Clarke - Thought he was the best player on the pitch. His ability to progress the ball up the pitch rapidly has never been in question, but his decision making variety of game has come on leaps and bounds. Wasn't able to make the difference on the night, but for no lack of endeavour. 8
Amad Diallo - His usually exquisite touch wasn't quite at it this evening. Missed a sitter to make it 2-0 late in the second half and didn't respond quickly enough to Clarke's ball through in the closing stages. 6
Patrick Roberts - Like Amad, it wasn't his night. He always shows endeavour, but not many dribbles or flicks came off like they often do. 6
Joe Gelhardt - Took his goal excellently, trapping Amad's fizzed pass and drilling it in the near corner. Worked really hard as always. Surprising to see him coming off on the 70th minute. 8
SUBS
Isaac Lihadji - Looked a bit understandably reluctant to take risks. Didn't make much of an impact. 6
Tom Watson - Great to see him get minutes in a league game. Didn't have a touch. N/A
Joe Anderson - Came on late to replace the injured Batth. N/A
