With just nine games of the season to go and the play-off hopes washed away by a flood of horrifyingly inept refereeing, it's starting to feel like Sunderland are winding down a little.

The defeat to Sheffield United was probably the end of any realistic play-offs hopes, although you could argue that they were over the second Ross Stewart pulled up injured at Fulham.

The visit of Luton should be an interesting game, although Tony Mowbray once again has his hands tied by the injury list.

He has received a double boost though with the return of Amad Diallo and the news that Luke O'Nien is find after hobbling off in midweek.

Will Amad come straight back into the side, though?

Sunderland predicted line-up vs Luton (4-2-3-1)

GK: Anthony Patterson - Will be hoping to sign off for international duty with a clean sheet.

RB: Trai Hume - Lynden Gooch is putting pressure on the youngster, but he appears to be very much the man in possession right now.

CB: Dan Ballard - Will be a key man given the physicality of Luton in attack.

CB: Danny Batth - Hard to imagine a Sunderland team without him right now and his experience is more important than ever.

LB: Luke O'Nien - Should continue to deputise for the injured Dennis Cirkin and Aji Alese.

CM: Dan Neil - Has become a crucial player since the injury to Corry Evans, even if there have been one of two costly mistakes along the way too.

CM: Edouard Michut - Scored his first goal against Sheffield United and seems to be getting better every week.

RW: Patrick Roberts - Has looked a little frustrated without Amad to play with, but still always Sunderland's best hope of some magic.

CAM: Amad Diallo - Should come back in for Abdoullah Ba, who would be unfortunate to drop out after a goal and an assist in the last week.

LW: Jack Clarke - Utterly immovable from the Sunderland side after a fine season.

CF: Joe Gelhardt - Probably produced his best performance in a Sunderland shirt in midweek, which is very encouraging.
