Sunderland were beaten 1-0 at home vs Cardiff City in the Championship yesterday.

Sunderland's positive run of form came to an end yesterday, with Cardiff City winning 1-0 at the Stadium of Light.

Tony Mowbray's side remain in the top six of the Championship though, with Sunderland having won their previous three before yesterday's defeat.

And there were enough positives to take from the game, as pointed out by Mowbray. He's quoted as saying on the Cardiff game:

“Hopefully I’m humble enough to say well done to them, they made it difficult for us and good luck to them. There were lots of positives for our team. We were trying to score that goal late on and we were leaving players up the pitch.

"They had a game plan and they made life difficult for us, but there were lots of real positives for our team. We got into some good positions, we worked the ball well across the pitch."

Moving on...

It's still very early in the season. And after a tough start to the campaign, Sunderland bounced back, doing so in style with some impressive wins.

Mowbray once again seems to be getting the best out of his players despite having a lack of experienced strikers still, though yesterday's defeat was still an unexpected one.

Expect Mowbray to have taken a lot from that game and expect Sunderland to come back stronger when they face bottom club Sheffield Wednesday on Friday night.

Owls boss Xisco Munoz is a man under pressure with his side yet to win in the league this season, so Sunderland will see this as a very winnable game.

It won't be easy, but if Sunderland play their best then they should breeze past Wednesday.
