Sunderland defender suffers suspected broken leg in Championship clash
Sunderland defender Bailey Wright has suffered a suspected broken leg as his loan spell at Rotherham continues to be blighted by injury.
Wright started for the Millers as they secured a potentially crucial 3-1 win over West Brom on Good Friday.
The win has hauled Rotherham three points clear of the relegation zone with a game in hand, but it ended prematurely for Wright who was withdrawn in the 26th minute.
“Bailey’s injury looked bad,” Rotherham boss Matty Taylor confirmed. “He felt a crack on landing.
“He’s a tough boy and when he tried to stand up and put weight on it, he couldn’t. It would suggest a break or severe damage of some sort.”
Wright has featured just seven times for Rotherham since joining on loan on January deadline day, with his debut lasting just 30 seconds due to a concussion.
That meant an immediate short spell on the sidelines, although he had gone on to become an important player in Taylors’ side.
However, it now looks like his season is over which would mean a return to Sunderland, while it could also rule out a potential permanent summer move away from Wearside.
Wright still has a year left on his contract at Sunderland, so he would at least have no immediate concerns over his future should the injury indeed prove to be a serious one.
