Dan Ballard said Sunderland were ‘definitely the better team’ against Bristol City and the disappointing draw should not derail them in any way.

Sunderland conceded an injury-time penalty against the Robins, which Nahki Wells then converted to cancel out Jack Clarke’s opener.

Ballard admits that was ‘disappointing’ for Sunderland, although he was more focused on the positives.

“Yeah I thought we were the better team definitely,” Ballard told safc.com. “We probably deserved the three points so as long as we keep putting in the performances the points will come with it.

“Obviously it wasn’t the case today but a big 14 games left this season and if we perform like that every game we’ll pick up a lot of points.”

Sunderland went into the game trying to win a third consecutive game in the Championship.

While dropping two points in injury time is obviously not ideal, it extends the unbeaten run to five games and Ballard thinks that should not be forgotten despite the result.

“I think we’ve been on a great run of form and it shows that we’re disappointed with a point which shows how far we’ve come and the great run we’re on.

“It’s another point on the board, we’re going to keep pushing. We’re still on a good run, we feel confident and we’re going to try win every game.”
