Sunderland have 'a really strong team' despite losing run, insists midfielder

Pierre Ekwah does not believe the recent run of Sunderland defeats is properly reflecting the team's quality.

Pierre Ekwah says Sunderland have a ‘really good team’, which makes the recent run of defeats especially tough to take.

Sunderland lost 1-0 to Norwich City on Saturday, which made it four Championship defeats in a row for the fast fading Black Cats.

The result leaves them nine points adrift of the top six, but Ekwah is especially annoyed as he knows they are not properly showing their quality of late.

“A tough one but we played good, really good spells in the middle of the game so it was a tough one to take since it was a one nil defeat,” Ekwah said.

“We’ve got a really good team, we’ve got people missing and everything but we’ve still got a really strong team to compete against anyone and we showed it this afternoon.

“We definitely matched them and it was a good game but we didn't come out on top which is difficult to take.”

“Obviously the results haven’t come out on top lately but I’m sure if we keep going in the same way getting better and better in little bits and pieces we can definitely do what we want to do.”

Next up is a home clash against runaway leaders Leicester on Tuesday, and it’s one Ekwah is looking forward to.

He said: “Recover, go again, recover mentally, physically and go again because it's going to be a tough one but we’re definitely ready for that.”
