'Back in the building' - Tony Mowbray gives update on Elliot Embleton return
Tony Mowbray says Elliot Embleton is expected to be back in training before the end of the season, although he might hold him back before using him again.
Embleton was the only player to feature in every game for Sunderland this season when he suffered the injury in the 1-1 draw at Hull.
He broke his ankle and damaged ligaments in a collision with Hull’s Ryan Woods and was actually sent off for his part in it.
Embleton had to leave the field on a stretcher, though, and he was later pictured leaving hospital with his whole leg in plaster.
Mowbray has been optimistic on his recovery and the early reports were that he could play again this season. Is that still the case, though?
When asked for a timeframe on Embleton’s return, Mowbray said. "I'm not sure.
"He's been back in the building - I saw him at lunch the other day. I think the timescale is around a month before the end of the season, April or something like that, so we'll have to make a call later on.
"It's whether it is worth giving him the confidence going into the summer that he is actually fit and giving him some gametime, or do we give him the extra weeks to get himself fit through the summer?
“We won't make that decision until he gets to that point where is around on the grass."
