Sunderland have received a double injury boost with the news that Luke O’Nien and Amad Diallo should be fit to face Luton Town this weekend.

Amad has missed the last two games with a hamstring problem while O’Nien limped off in the final few minutes in the defeat to Sheffield United on Wednesday.

However, Mowbray says he is expecting both to be available for the visit of the Hatters.

“Luke O’Nien should be alright,” Mowbray confirmed in his pre-match press-conference.

“A few didn’t train today and we will see tomorrow if they will be available, a few coming back. Amad trained today so there’s a positive for us.”

However, as has been the case with Sunderland all season, one piece of good news on the injury front appears to be accompanied by more worrying developments.

Mowbray did not want to give any names, although he did hint at least one fresh injury concern.

“We have different challenges in different positions and different areas, players who might be available or are not available.

“You will see when the team sheet comes out and think, ‘why is he not playing?’ It’s probably not for me to tell you the day before who is available and who’s not available.

“As always we’ve got some challenges but will give it our best shot and hopefully be competitive in the game.”
