'We're getting better and better' - Sunderland midfielder excited for Championship run-in
Pierre Ekwah believes Sunderland are ‘getting better and better’ at just the right time, and their 3-1 win over Plymouth proves it.
Sunderland went a goal down against The Pilgrims after spending most of the first half struggling to assert themselves.
In too many similar situations this season, Sunderland have failed to turn dominance into goals, but they were in devastating attacking form after the break.
Michael Beale's family thanks Sunderland fans for 'touching' gesture
Goals from Ekwah, Jack Clarke and Jobe Bellingham completely turned the game on its head, and the Frenchman says it feels like everything is trending in the right direction.
"When you are in the top eight, top ten of the Championship, teams away from home will come and sit and you have to find a way, and we did,” Ekwah said.
“We are getting better and better at it through the season which is good. We just showed in the second half how you should start the first half.”
After the game, Clarke credited head coach Michael Beale for the his impact at half-time, and Ekwah has expressed a similar view.
"The gaffer gave us some great advice at half-time and we definitely took it and put the words into action, so it was good," Ekwah said.
"When a team away from home come and are organised defensively, it's difficult to take them down. Maybe you are not going to do it in the first half but you can do it in the second half.
"We came out with a different, maybe not mindset but our thinking was sharper in the second half. That really helped us a lot and we ended up winning the second half.”
