Antoine Griezmann May Need To Think About His Future With Barcelona

Antoine Griezmann to Barcelona was a colossal waste of money. It was never going to work. Ever.

Antoine Griezmann to Barcelona was a colossal waste of money. It was never going to work. Ever.

The reason why he succeeded at Atletico Madrid was because Diego Simeone transformed Griezmann into a target man; a direct, aggressive, mainly central offensive, goal-scoring star. He was the portal to most offensive ideas. But that’s not how Barcelona works. There is no main portal - there is the architect, Lionel Messi, and then everything else.

The system is less about lines and more interchangeable fluidity, and that’s alien to Griezmann. He is clearly a talented individual, a World Cup champion who was a Ballon d’Or third place vote twice, yet, at 29 years old, he needs to think about what he wants. As for Barcelona, the effort into adapting and existing post-Messi should be more on players you can truly help, and equally help you.
