A handful of Premier League teams are reportedly in talks about joining a new FIFA-backed tournament. Potentially joining the Premier League teams would be more than a dozen teams from across France, Germany, Italy and Spain. The new competition would consist of 18 teams, playing during the regular European season, with the top-placed teams advancing to a knockout tournament. Plenty of other details need to be ironed out, while critics claim this is a negotiating tactic as plans for a potential revamp of the Champions League starting in 2024 are drawn up.
