After just one year with Frank Vogel in charge, the Phoenix Suns are looking for a new coach.

The Suns have fired Vogel, according to a Thursday afternoon report from ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski that was later confirmed by the team.

Vogel, 50, went 49–33 in his lone year with Phoenix. The Suns reached the postseason in a competitive Western Conference, but were swept in the first round by the Minnesota Timberwolves.

"After a thoughtful review of our season, we concluded that we need a different head coach for our team," Phoenix general manager James Jones said in a statement. "We appreciate Frank's hard work and commitment."

Vogel's hiring on June 6, 2023 followed another surprise firing—the dismissal of coach Monty Williams on May 13 of that year, just two seasons after he led the Suns to a Western Conference title.

Per Wojnarowski, former Atlanta Hawks and Milwaukee Bucks coach Mike Budenholzer "will be prominent" in Phoenix's search.
