• Last Aussies bid farewell. Local favorites Bernard Tomic and Sam Stosur headlined Saturday's night session, falling to Rafael Nadal and Petra Kvitova, respectively.

• Other top seeds march on. No. 2 Vera Zvonareva and No. 3 Kim Clijsters moved through to the Round of 16, while No. 4 Robin Soderling, No. 5 Andy Murray and No. 7 David Ferrer were men's winners.

• Isner falls in five. The 20th-seeded American lost a 4-6, 6-2, 6-7 (5), 7-6 (2), 9-7 slugfest to Marin Cilic in 4 hours, 33 minutes. It marked Isner's first five-set match since last year's historic Wimbledon marathon against Nicolas Mahut.

• Unsung and unseeded players stay alive. 20-year-old Canadian qualifier Milos Raonic boomed 31 aces to upset No. 10 Mikhail Youzhny in four sets. Ukraine's Alexandr Dolgopolov, 22, ousted No. 13 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in five.
