Former No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki won the last six games to beat Sabine Lisicki 2-6, 6-3, 6-3. Her draw opened up with No. 7 Sara Errani's loss.

Serena Williams rolled her right ankle and collapsed to the court in her first-round match.

Williams took a seven-minute injury timeout yet still won 6-0, 6-0 over Edina Gallovits-Hall in less than an hour.

Williams' ankle was heavily taped before the match, which may have saved her from major injury.

No. 1 Victoria Azarenka beat Monica Niculescu 6-1, 6-4 and could get Wozniacki in the fourth round.

Australian fans haven't had much to cheer about with their home-nation players.

Kimiko Date-Krumm, 42, won her first Australian Open match in 17 years, ousting No. 12 Nadia Petrova 6-2, 6-0. She's the oldest match winner in tournament history.

No. 8 Petra Kvitova beat Francesca Schiavone 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 and gets Laura Robson next.

A slimmer No. 8 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga beat Michael Llodra 6-4, 7-5, 6-2. He gets Go Soeda in round 2.

No. 2 Roger Federer made quick work of Benoit Paire, 6-2, 6-4, 6-1. He may get brash Aussie Bernard Tomic in round 3.

No. 6 Juan Martin del Potro beat Adrian Mannarino 6-1, 6-2, 6-2 and gets Benjamin Becker next.

No. 29 Sloane Stephens was a 6-1, 6-1 winner over Simona Halep. Kristina Mladenovic awaits in the second round.
