Tomic senior won a virtual lottery 20 years ago when his son Bernard was born in Germany.

Hefty sponsorship deals, Tennis Australia's monetary largesse and prizemoney - all earned by his son - have seen John Tomic, a former taxi driver, taken for the ride of his life.

Yet, at almost every turn, he has marked himself as a bully and an ingrate.

The injection boosts your white blood cells by putting in fresh ones. It's saying: 'OK white blood cells, let's build, let's get healthy.' Saturday will be the fifth set – that's when you're battling."

He and [Andy] Murray are contesting a private duel over who will lose their hair first. "Andy struggles," Hutchins laughs. "He's thinner on the crown but I'm low on hair now. The nurses are surprised I haven't lost all my hair but it hasn't gone completely. If I wake up and Lindsay [his fiancee] suddenly has a face like this [Hutchins imitates The Scream] I'll know my hair has finally gone."

• WTA CEO Stacey Allaster continues to speak out against "excessive grunting."

"We are going to be working with the governing bodies to drive excessive grunting out of the game," says Allaster. "The plan is about focusing on educating the next generation. My team has been out to international academies and events, and shown the players a video about what the fans think of grunting."

On a parallel path, technicians are looking to a possible alternative that might monitor the volume of grunting, with an acoustic threshold being set.
