Bethanie Mattek-Sands

I spoke with Bethanie Mattek-Sands recently for a story about her resurgence this year. During our conversation, I asked her some random questions. Here's how she answered them:

SI.com: What's the last thing you Googled?

Mattek-Sands: I was learning the truth about baby carrots. I had heard that they were dipped in chlorine, so I was getting to the bottom of it.

SI.com: iPhone or BlackBerry?

Mattek-Sands: I converted to the iPhone. I did use BlackBerry a lot for BBM, but the iPhone Internet is way better and it has iMessage and way cooler apps.

SI.com: If you could only dye your hair one color the rest of your life what would it be?

Mattek-Sands: Platinum blonde.

SI.com: What's the first thing that you think of when you step off a plane?

Mattek-Sands: I hope all my bags made it. I've been pretty lucky, but, man, I just really hope everything's here. That would make my life easier.

SI.com: Dream mixed doubles partner?

Mattek-Sands: Aaron Rodgers. I want to do the Discount Double Check with him [as a big Green Bay Packers fan].

SI.com: What's the most surprising thing you could tell people about your doubles partner, Sania Mirza [of India]?

Mattek-Sands: That I can tell in public? Sania's not here to defend herself, so we gotta draw the line. I would tell you that her English is probably better than some Americans'. The way she communicates -- she gets the sarcasm, the innuendos, abbreviations and slang. I talk to her and she's never not gotten what I said. It's more impressive than most of my American friends.

SI.com: If you were in charge of tennis for one day, what's the first thing you would change?

Mattek-Sands: I think to combine the WTA and the ATP and have a commissioner is a pretty good idea. And a player's union.

SI.com: What's the worst on-court dust-up you've witnessed?

Mattek-Sands: I'm pretty mild on the court, so I've never been involved in any on-court altercations. I am colorful in my clothing, but I keep [the other stuff] to a minimum. The only one that comes to mind that I think is the best is when Marcos Baghdatis crushed his rackets in Australia [last year]. The rackets were still in their stringing bag. I was like, That's awesome.
