Rafael Nadal defeated David Ferrer 6-3, 6-2, 6-3 on Sunday to win his eighth French Open title. Here's a look at Nadal's dominance at Roland Garros since his debut in 2005.

• Nadal is 59-1 with eight titles in nine appearances.

• Nadal's only loss came against 23rd-seeded Robin Soderling in the fourth round in 2009. Soderling's 6-2, 6-7 (2), 6-4, 7-6 (2) victory snapped Nadal's 31-match winning streak at Roland Garros. (Nadal is 82-1 overall in best-of-five matches on clay.)

• A year later, Nadal trounced Soderling 6-4, 6-2, 6-4 in the final.

• Of his 59 victories, 46 have come in straight sets, 11 in four sets and two in five sets.

• The first of those victories was a 6-1, 7-6 (4), 6-1 win over No. 96 Lars Burgsmuller in the 2005 first round.

• Before going the distance to beat Novak Djokovic in the semifinals this year, Nadal's only five-setter at the French Open came when he rallied to beat John Isner 6-4, 6-7 (2), 6-7 (2), 6-2, 6-4 in the first round in 2011. The Isner match marked the first time Nadal lost a set in the first or second round -- something he did in both the first and second round in this year's tournament.

• In the finals, Nadal has defeated Roger Federer four times and Ferrer, Djokovic, Soderling and Mariano Puerta once apiece.

• Puerta, a 6-7 (6), 6-3, 6-1, 7-5 loser, was ranked 37th when he faced Nadal in the 2005 final. Puerta is one of only five players to take the first set from Nadal in Nadal's victories at the French Open. The others are Paul-Henri Mathieu and Federer (both in 2006) and Daniel Brands and Martin Klizan (both in 2013).

• In 2005, Nadal became the first player to win the French Open in his debut since Mats Wilander in 1982. Nadal won the final two days after his 19th birthday.

• Nadal's lowest-ranked opponent in nine French Opens has been Frenchman Gianni Mina, who was No. 655 when he lost 6-2, 6-2, 6-2 in the first round in 2010.

• Nadal's most lopsided win was a 6-2, 6-0, 6-0 victory against No. 15 Juan Monaco in the fourth round last year.

• Nadal's most ruthless run was 2008, when he dropped no sets and 41 games, or an average of fewer than six per match. That included a 6-1, 6-3, 6-0 rout of Federer in the final, the most one-sided championship match since Guillermo Vilas manhandled Brian Gottfried 6-0, 6-3, 6-0 in 1977.
