WIMBLEDON, England -- What is it about Wimbledon and jackets?

Roger Federer took to the court with his famous military-inspired jacket in 2009, and Serena Williams rocked a trench coat in 2008. Nike seems obsessed with making the look work, and it's understandable. How else are you supposed to dress up a boring all-white ensemble?

Well, Nike tried again this year, with a modern look for Federer and a one-button blazer for Williams. Neither worked out well.

Victoria Azarenka's and Juan Martin del Potro's jackets: No, those aren't North Face fleece jackets, though you would be forgiven if you did a double-take like I did. I just don't know what Nike was going for here, especially with Azarenka's shapeless warm-up, which made her look like Casper the Not-So-Friendly Ghost. Rafael Nadal: The red and grey accents were a nice color choice. But Nadal's collar was something between a V-neck, crew neck, and scoop neck, and it looked awkward throughout his first-round loss to Steve Darcis. (Ben Stansall/AFP/Getty Images)

Andrea Petkovic: I'm going to have to vote "no" on the use of mesh on the side panels. Has Stella McCartney ever played tennis? That stuff itches. (Julian Finney/Getty Images)

Serena Williams: Big fan of the orange knickers, and the dress fits well. But once again, the use of mesh up top decreases the elegance factor, which is the look she wears best at Wimbledon. Save the mesh for the U.S. Open. This is Wimbledon. (Sang Tan/AP)
