No. 12 Sloane Stephens is working with coach Paul Annacone during the offseason on a trial basis, according to Tennis.com.
Annacone, who split with Roger Federer after the U.S. Open, has been working with Stephens in Los Angeles and will continue to do so until Stephens leaves for Australia at the end of December to begin her season at Hopman Cup in Perth, per Tennis.com. Whether the coaching relationship with continue after that is unknown.
The 20-year-old Stephens is coming off a stellar, though uneven, breakout season. She stunned a hobbled Serena Williams at the Australian Open to make her first Grand Slam semifinal, and she reached the fourth round or better at the other three majors, too. Outside of the Slams, however, her results were less consistent. She advanced to the quarterfinals or better at six of 19 WTA tournaments but lost before the third round seven times and has still yet to make a WTA final.
