MELBOURNE, Australia -- Two things I've learned in Australia this week: The weather forecasts are brutal and they're also dead right.

The heat played a big role on Day 2 of the Australian Open, leaving players cramping, vomiting and nearly fainting as they tried to deal with 108-degree heat. Through it all, Roger Federer began his tournament looking like he just finished a light hit on a cool spring day. How in the world does he do that?

Here are some of our favorite photos from an (insert your favorite word for "searing apocalyptic heat" here) Day 2:

Gael Monfils

Gael Monfils: As Redfoo cheered from the stands, Monfils defeated Ryan Harrison 6-4, 6-4, 6-4. See, Gael? You can do your crazy leaping things and still win. (Andrew Brownbill/AP)

Sloane Stephens

Sloane Stephens: Stephens, a 2013 semifinalist, fought back from 1-5 in the first set to beat Yaroslava Shvedova 7-6 (1), 6-3. That should shake out some nerves. (Mal FaircloughAFP/Getty Images)

Jelena-Jankovic-1

Jelena Jankovic: The Serb says she's more dangerous when she smiles. She overcame a bad fall that required two medical timeouts to beat Misaki Doi 6-1, 6-2. (Saeed Khan/AFP/Getty Images)

Yulia-Putintseva-1

Yulia Putintseva: The demonstrative Russian teen "ComeOnDavai'd" her way to a set off No. 5 Agnieszka Radwanska but lost 6-0, 5-7, 6-2. (Cameron Spencer/Getty Images)

Jo-Wilfried-Tsonga-3

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga: I don't understand how you get into a position to hit this shot, let alone make it look so graceful, but that's what Tsonga does. He beat Filippo Volandri 7-5, 6-3, 6-3. (Greg Wood/AFP/Getty Images)

Agnieszka-Radwanska-1

Agnieszka Radwanska: The Polish star looked to be under physical stress in the heat, but she steadied herself to outlast Putintseva. (Cameron Spencer/Getty Images)

Roger-Federer-11

Roger Federer: Nike seems to have sent Federer out in a pair of boxer shorts. Not that it bothered him at all. He dispatched James Duckworth 6-4, 6-4, 6-2 as Stefan Edberg looked on from his player's box. (William West/AFP/Getty Images)

Stefan-Edberg-2

Stefan Edberg (right): Has he aged? I don't think he's aged. (Clive Brunskill/Getty Images)

Ballboy-faints

Caroline-Wozniacki-3

Caroline Wozniacki: The Dane dominated Lourdes Dominguez Lino 6-0, 6-2. After the match, Wozniacki revealed that her fiancé, Rory McIlroy, used her favorite number to decide the carats for her engagement ring. So what's her favorite number? Eight. (Cameron Spencer/Getty Images)

Bernard-Tomic-Rafael-Nadal-1

Bernard Tomic and Rafael Nadal: As ESPN joked, Nadal went shirtless to distract the home crowd from booing Tomic's retirement. It actually worked. (Clive Brunskill/Getty Images)

Andreas-Seppi-1

Andreas Seppi: The No. 24 seed saved a match point and knocked out Lleyton Hewitt 7-6 (4), 6-3, 5-7, 5-7, 7-5. (Scott Barbour/Getty Images)
