It's a milestone day for Grigor Dimitrov. Not only is he celebrating his 23rd birthday, but he also advanced to his first ATP Masters 1000 semifinal after Tommy Haas retired after losing the first set 6-2 with a shoulder injury.

"Definitely one of the most memorable days of my life," he said. "It's unfortunate how it ended, but I'm just a happy birthday boy today. Very simple."

During an on court celebration, Dimitrov was presented with a cake and when he leaned down to blow out the candles his coach Roger Rasheed promptly pushed it into his face. How was the cake?

"Very tasty... and cold," Dimitrov said.

Dimitrov, who will rise to a career-high No. 12 with the win, gamely did his on-court interview without toweling off, taking a few bites from his handful of cake between questions.
