Svetlana Kuznetsova upset Serena Williams in the fourth round of the Miami Open on Monday, rallying to claim a 6–7(3), 6–1, 6–2 victory.

Williams's loss means that the world No. 1 is still without a title in 2016. Kuznetsova, the tournament's No. 15 seed, will play the winner of Monday's match between No. 12 Elina Svitolina and No. 30 Ekaterina Makarova.

Entering Monday's match, Kuznetsova had only won twice in 10 chances against Williams, the defending champion of the tournament.

Williams double–faulted nine times in Monday's defeat to the 30–year–old Russian. After Kuznetsova dropped the first set after losing a tiebreaker 3–7, she cruised to victory, dropping only three games over the next two sets to record her third–ever victory over Williams.
